Namaste

I recently returned from a fantastic trip to Costa Rica. Apart from the mosquitoes and the 6 inch long grasshoppers it was an adventurous trip. Okay the giant grasshoppers were kind of cool.

I was staying in the town of Tamarindo, and while exploring I came across a sign for a hostel that greeted travelers with, "Namaste". I couldn't help but wonder why it was in Tamarindo?

Was there an influx of Hindus in town? The little that I know about Costa Rican history would suggest otherwise, but I had to find out.

Maybe this was a South Asian owned hostel? In the end this hostel didn't adhere to the idea that South Asians tend to dominate the hospitality industry. This hostel is owned by a few "free-spirited", Gringos that settled in the splendor of Costa Rica. Tamarindo does have a saying that is echoed throughout town. "Pura Vida", which means "pure life". Maybe the owners wanted to be different and use something completely out of context to stand out?
Gotta love Hippies!
