New and Much Improved Chor Bazaar Designs for 2008!

After a long design and production process we are very excited to present our new t-shirts for 2008! If we were an automobile company these would be the 2009 models...

We have not forgotten Chor Bazaar's mission to bring integrity to the idea of South Asian culture. The difference this time is that we decided to throw out the conservative and provide a fresh overhaul on the designs.

We had launched the new shirts at this year's Renegade Craft Fair and received great feedback. The Brooklynites appreciated that we have thought and meaning behind each design. We are thankful because that is what we are most proud of.

We hope this years designs catch on. Remember, you don't have to be Desi (South Asian) to rock these. All we ask is that you love the culture or experience.

1. PSYCHOLOGY of TRAFFIC t-shirt:

This Rorschach Inkblot is a representation of the chaos of India's Traffic. Travel the roads of india and these shirts will will make sense. Look close and this Inkblot is comprised of the most common types of vehicles found on the roads. Camel carts, buses, cars, rickshaws, bicycles, scooters, ect...

2. MUH KALA t-shirt:

Written in Hindi, "Buri Nazar Wale Tera Muh Kala", is found on the back of trucks all over India. It is directed as a curse, "Back off or smoke in your face". The hawk graphic is a symbol of good luck.

3. ENFIELD BULLET t-shirt:



The Enfield Bullet Motorcycle was brought to India as a military motorcycle. It was eventually purchased by an Indian entity and are still made in India. It is the Harley Davidson of Indian roads and a true symbol of being a "tough guy". The writing says, "Bullet" in Hindi.

4. GADAR / MUTINY t-shirt:

This shirt represents India's historical fight against the British Raj. The Hindi lettering is an actual letter from Rani of Jhansi who was pleading for support from neighboring Hindu kingdoms to ward off the forces of the British Raj that were threatening her Kingdom. Rani of Jhansi actually fought the British with her baby strapped to her back. This letter is superimposed on weapons of war.

5. CYBER PAISLEY t-shirt:



This is our take on modern India. We have fused the classic Indian textile image of a paisley with a circuit board - a tribute to the Modern Indian focus on technology.
